I’m making the switch from a two-piece to one-piece suit with the primary use for track days. I want the added sense of security from a one-piece suit. This is an “out the box” review after wearing it a few times around the apartment and in the crouch position. Just like the comments by the reviewers below, as well as on the STG video, my impressions are that it’s good value suit and made well.
My old two-piece is size 52 Euro. It’s maybe 10 years old, stretched out, and seen plenty of use. Turning to the RST suit, I was going to order a size 50 Euro online, but before pulling the trigger I called STG and spoke with Corey (hope I got the name right) about sizing. He recommended a size 54 Euro, which surprised me! I told Corey I’m 5’10”, 183 lbs., measuring 41” chest and 34” waist. I go to the gym regularly but do have the dreaded 1” (err, maybe 2 inches) pinch around my tummy. As said, he recommended the 54”. So how did the shipped suit fit? With an undersuit and Forcefield Pro L2k back protector the RST fits great! There is room to slip in my Forcefield chest protectors, however there is no spare room around the chest. It’s a snug fit without being super tight. The armor is held nicely in place. I do have one small niggle; the arms are a tab too long. The neoprene cuff is a nice touch and is soft, however the cuff ends just after my wrist joint (my sleeve length is 24 ½”). It’s not a major niggle for an off the peg suit and I’m hoping over time the leather softens round the elbow. I’m also debating upgrading the armor to CE level 2 and this may help with dialing in the fit as the armor would be a little thicker. In general, I prefer slightly shorter length sleeves. My Held Phantom gloves fit just fine over top and I have good movement.
As I mentioned, I tried the suit on with my Forcefield Pro L2k back protector, however I do wear the Helite GP Air Track Vest on track and will plan to continue to wear it over the top of the suit. Helite claim you don’t need a back protector with their vest, however due to my own weirdness I planning on using a soft flex style insert back protector in the suit pocket to take up a little volume and add that little extra safety.
The RST is very comfy out of the box. For the track I think this is going to be a great suite and I brought it at a great price. Finally, I do agree with other comments that you would need to significantly up the dollars to get better.
