How To Choose The Right Size Motorcycle Helmet
The primary reason for wearing a motorcycle helmet is protection. For a helmet to do the job it was intended for it must fit properly, a poor fitting helmet can actually be worse than not wearing a helmet at all. When a helmet fits loosely it's ability to manage an impact is reduced. Not only can it reduce effectiveness for impact management the same loose fitting helmet can move around while riding obstructing or reducing your field of view. On top of that, the wind noise while riding will be increased which reduces comfort, is distracting and can cause hearing damage.
The first step to a proper fitting helmet is to take a measurement which we show you how to do in this video. Most of the major helmet manufacturers like AGV, Arai, Bell, Scorpion and Shoei have their helmet size charts pretty refined by this point and we work hard to fill in any gaps to help you get that perfect fit. A properly fitting helmet will require reasonable effort to put on as well as take off. Once the helmet is on it should be snug all over without creating pressure points. Most helmets will "break in" to some degree as they are ridden in.
