Metzeler 01 SE Tires
I recently replaced the Factory Michelin Road 5’s on my 2023 BMW R1250R with new Metzeler 01 SE tires. I had 5,700 miles on the Michelins and was happy with the handling and especially the Mileage. I wanted to try a sportier softer tread tire. We noticed immediately the carcass seems much stiffer than the OEM Michelins and were very difficult to mount on the wheels. After a perfect static balance I took it out. The ride was harsher than before but the real issue was the immediate instability of the bike. It had head shake above 50 MPH and under off throttle deceleration the front end wobbled side to side. I immediately took it back and ordered new Road 5’s . This is the worst tire experience of my riding career. I have owned 33 motorcycles and have extensive experience on track and road. I run Metzelers on other bikes with good results, however this was an eye opener. We checked everything out closely. Tires ran out perfectly and we hand static balanced them. Using our race team balancer. All perfect. Very disappointed in Metzeler now.
