In our opinion the Dainese D-Air Misano Race Suit is the most protective suit on the market today. The addition of the air bag to what is already a top level race suit takes it to the next level, one the comptetition has not yet reached on the consumer level. A broken collar bone is the most common injury in motorcycling, this air bag has a proven track record of preventing that form happening to you. Looking at the price there are other suits selling for pretty much the same price without an air bag, makes the choice pretty simple doesn't it?

The Dainese D Air Misano racesuit uses the Intelligent Protection System which combines a wireless air bag system with highly evolved microprocessor technology to increase the level of protection available to motorcyclists. Internal sensors and a GPS signal distinguish the factors inherent in an accident and inflates the air bag, adding extra protection to the neck and collarbone area. GPS allows rider telemetry via USB port, including lap times, maximum speed and trajectory plotting with instantaneous speed and acceleration. All the electronic components are housed within the Misano's speed hump.

In the event of a violent crash, D-air can trigger in less than 15 milliseconds. When the crash dynamics are less sudden, the sophisticated triggering algorithm assesses conditions and can decide upon a longer triggering time. The D-air airbag has a deployment time of 30 milliseconds and reaches its full protection level within 80 milliseconds. D-air works in synergy with existing body armor in race leathers, shielding the shoulders, neck and collar bones in the rider's body. D-air reduces the risk of direct helmet impact on the collar bones, limits the inclination of the head in relation to the neck and reduces helmet movement during rolling. Protection is achieved without compromising the ergonomics and comfort of racing leathers.

Tests carried out in accordance with the current European standards for shoulder armor (EN 1621-1/97) show that D-air protection reduces the force transferred by over 85% compared with traditional composite body armor. D-air is the intelligent airbag-based protection for motorcyclists’ safety on the track.

  1. Great suit but you'll need two of them. 4 Star Rating

I've had this suit a little over a year and I am very satisfied with it in all but one aspect.
The air bag deployed during a 60 mph tumbling low side crash on the track and did it's job. No broken collarbone (at a corner that has a rep as a bone collector) and no significant injuries, just a few bruises.
I crashed early last season and sent it to Dainese for repair/recharge within a week. It took over 6 weeks to get the suit back from Dainese in California. It needed only minor repairs to one stretch panel and of course it needed to have the air bag reset. Dainese will not recharge the air bag until they have repaired the suit to their satisfaction.
Total cost of the repair / air bag reset was $575 plus shipping. A buddy of mine with a D-Air crashed later in the season and it took him 3 months to get it back. Again he had only minor damage to the suit. It takes way too long to get these suits recharged.
STG customer support was excellent but of course they had no control over the actual repairs.
The back protector is useless. I guess that makes it two issues.
It really is a great suit, but it doesn't do me much good if I can't wear it because it's sitting in California waiting to be repaired.

GREAT SUIT. Fits tight from crotch to shoulder and is hard to get in and out but its designed to be tight and fit good while riding. Fitmen is not an issue on the bike but just uncomfortable while standing. Haven't crashed tested it but I'm sure it'll do it's job

  3. A review I wish I wasn't able to write 5 Star Rating

I crashed in this suit, the last race of the day on the first day wearing the suit, which is the reason I am writing this. This suit is without a doubt the best thing I could have bought. I was going pretty fast when I went off track. Lots of skydirtskydirtskydirt.... When I finally came to a stop, I was amazed that I had no injury. (My bike was not so lucky) A number of people I race with have had to have some collar bone repair this year. This price difference between this suit and any other good suit is probably less than insurance deductibles and time/money lost from being off work. Also the personal assistance you will need with a broken collar bone. After that crash, I bought a second suit as a back-up. Only downside with the suit for me is I am built more like a hobbit than many of you skinny beanpoles out there on the track with me ;) .

off the rack the best fitting most comfortable suit iver ever had. ive tried a star, spidi, and others and this one is the best. you can just tell the quality from looking at it and touching. the attention to detail, how the suit armor snaps to lock into place on your arms and legs, its the way a suit should be. hands down the best.

I was a little nervous at first with this purchase. I have never spent this much $ on a piece of gear! Out of the box I could tell this was well worth the investment and it is a night and day difference compared to my other $1,300 suit, which is a good suit itself. It fits good, although my upper body is a bit tall for the suit, but that is the same as any other suit I have had. The protection is second to none in my opinion, even without the d-air. Not looking forward for the air system deploys but I will be glad it is there when I need it.

This suit is a must buy for anyone who want gp level protection at an affordable price . Only bad thing I can say is the back protector it comes with is useless, buy the wave pro combo that comes with front a back protection that you can strap to your body. Lastly I been buying dainese for 7 years and know my sizes and I feel like this suit runs a little small I would recommend anyone buying it go 1 size up.
